When you’re ready to buy your own computer, don’t be in a rush and buy the first machine you come across that fits your budget.  Whatever your budget is, there won’t be a problem in finding a machine suitable; what is more important is to know what you need it for and whether the computer  you have chosen is capable of providing you with the speed, space and functionality you expect from it. Doing some research before hand will not hurt you and help you to decide which particular computer is best for your needs.

If it’s the first time you are purchasing your machine, it will most probably be a laptop computer, a Notebook or Netbook. These are the three most popular types of computers that everyone goes for with the  model you hope to buy depending on the money you can spend at the time. Let’s start with the Netbook which is the smallest of the three types and will provide you with everything you need in a computer at a lesser price. Just because it’s comparatively cheap doesn’t mean that a Netbook computer is slow or sluggish although if speed is of the essence, cut down on unessential components such as a powerful sound or graphics card and settle for a Notebook  with a fast processing speed.

Whether you buy a Netbook or Notebook, keep in mind that the hard drive of the computer also matters a great deal with one that has more disc space being always better in the long term.  While it’s always possible to get additional memory through the use of a “Flash drive” this might not always be possible in view of the very few USB ports found on a Netbook and Notebook computer. Another reason to ensure that your  machine is built in with the desired space is so that you don’t have to take other components with you since the main reason for buying a laptop, or notebook is because of its portability.

One of the main disadvantages of the Laptop and other mobile computers is the minimum battery life they offer. In most instances the actual time you can use your battery is much less than what is stated by the manufacturer. Therefore before you buy your Laptop computer, make sure there’s at least a reasonable time such as 80% of what is stated. You will understand that the cheaper computers suffer more in this regard while those in the upper price bracket having a better life whether it’s a Netbook or Laptop.  At an average you can expect to have 5 hours of battery time and if you come across any Laptop computer or Notebook that has a better life, you should definitely put it on top of your list.

Unlike in the past, the storage capacity of the Notebook has been considerably increased with many Notebook computer being available with 250GB memory.  They have also been Wi-Fi enabled now offering greater advantage and portability to the user. The Notebook also has a LCD screen which provides  better  viewing and brighter pictures with the latest Notebooks having inbuilt cameras and sound cards that makes extra peripherals absolutely unnecessary for those using these computers.
